Marilyn Monroe dress set for Hollywood sale

Those with a passion for antique clothing may have noted details of one auction in the United States.

A pink satin gown worn by Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen PreferBlondes will be up for sale in Los Angeles. The dress will be flogged by Profiles in History, which claimsthe dress has a value of between $150,000 and $200,000 (£105,000and £140,000).

It adorned Monroe in the Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friendsequence of the film - and will potentially dazzle onlookers whohave a passion for antique clothing.

The silk taffeta strapless gown has black satin lining and anoversized bow at the back. It also comes with a pink taffeta belt that has Monroe's namewritten on the material. The gown is said to be in "fine condition", although it hasslight toning in some areas, as is common with many such vintagedresses.

Previously, it was revealed that the same auction house isstaging a sale of props from the TV series Lost, a programme whichis due to end shortly.
