Contemporary art is a broad category, generally defined as anything created since the end of World War II, including paintings, sculpture, art installations and even video art. Contemporary art comprises a number of artistic movements, such as Pop art, Urban art, Minimalism and Postmodernism. Collectors of Contemporary art are continually having to adapt to a marketplace that is saturated with talented artists.
More recently there is a growing online trend which seeks to categorise and define the contemporary art world. From art critics that work for international newspapers who become art celebrities in their own right to online auction sites that bring the sale of contemporary art to the internet, contemporary art is viewed by the public through a number of different lenses. With bloggers telling us what exhibitions to view, we are constantly being confronted with new art. Contemporary art is continuing to appreciate as an alternative investment - the market is so lucrative that websites focused on the topic of contemporary art are considered assets in their own right.
