Sports Memorabilia

Anyone keen to flog their most valuable antique items might be interested in the apparent appeal of FIFA World Cup memorabilia. Toby Walne wrote a piece for the Daily Mail in which he highlighted the value of such football-related objects - from programmes and shirts to mugs and photographs.

He observed that a 1930 World Cup poster designed by Uruguayanartist Guillermo Laborde is worth about £5,000. In addition, a gold winner's medal given to the Uruguay captain in the same tournament was previously flogged for £28,000. Regarding how to identify the best value, he noted:"Collectibles relating to the England team of 1966 still attract the most interest and their values have continued to climb."

The 1966 competition saw the arrival of World Cup Willie, the first ever mascot for the football showpiece, which may feature on a variety of items. This summer, England will start their campaign against the USAon June 12th.
