William Gladstone items given antiques valuation of £25,000

William Gladstone memorabilia is set to go under the hammer with an antiques valuation of between £20,000 and £25,000.

According to the BBC, items previously belonging to the former prime minister, which include a wheelbarrow and shovel given to him in 1892, will be sold at Bonhams in London.

The pieces will make up part of the Gentleman's Library Sale and Michael Moorcroft, head of the silver department at the auctioneers, pointed out they are all very unusual.

He added: "A print from a magazine of the time shows Gladstone in action with the shovel, which still has a dent in it from when he used it."

And Mr Moorcroft described the wheelbarrow as having "gorgeous" silver mounts on it.

This comes after a vehicle used by another former prime minister - Winston Churchill - went under the hammer at Bonhams for £150,000, the news service reported.
