AA bottle of Victorian era Armagnac has managed to fetch an antique valuation of nearly £2,000 at auction.

The rare 1872 Janneau Armagnac went under the hammer for £1,880 in Glasgow, Reuters reports.

The 105-year-old product, which was sold at the McTear's Rare and Collectable Whisky auction, was bottled in 1972 and is the oldest yet released by the company, the publication continued.

According to the Janneau website, the casks where the Armagnac ages consist of European oak and come from French forests.

In addition, there are two distillation processes used for goods - single or double - to give the Armagnac its flavour.

The website added that Janneau has received "some of the greatest and most prestigious awards in the spirits sector".

This news comes after 30 short-neck champagne bottles were found at the bottom of the ocean last month, which, according to appraisals, could reach an antique valuation of 500,000 Swedish krono (£43,351).
