Those looking to pick up a bargain price for a Jack Vettriano piece may be in luck, after a series of the Scottish painter's works went unsold at a recent auction in London. Anyone who loves antique paintings might be interested to learn that seven out of the ten paintings on offer were not snapped up by buyers.

At the Sotheby's spring auction in the capital, items such as Study For Heaven Or Hell ? The Sweetest Choice, had an auctioneer's estimate of between £20,000 and £30,000 and did not attract a new owner. In addition, news of the three sold paintings may attract the interest of people who are keen to get a great deal on a fantastic artwork. The three sold pieces included The Longing, which had a £20,000list price but went for £18,750.

Also under hammer was Model Reclining, an item that fetched£37,250 just above the £35,000 list price. Those seeking the best possible deals for antique paintings could head to the site of the old Chelsea Barracks this June, where the Masterpiece sale is set to take place.
