Prints

Federico Herrero, Carbon, 2006

A work for the environmentally conscious, Herrero's seemingly playful and brightly coloured "Carbon" painting expresses a darker message, commenting on humankind's insatiable and relentless desire to over-mine coal like monstrous beasts, without regard for the beauty of the earth.

Ruven Afanador Courtney Love, New York City, 2009

Afanador is known for his irreverent yet elegant fashion photography and celebrity portraiture, and this portrait of the former Hole front woman and wife of the late Kurt Cobain is no exception.

Denis O'Regan, Amy Winehouse, 2007, printed 2012

Pictured less than a year after the release of her hugely successful second album, Back to Black, the then-23-year-old singer and newly-minted megastar’s characteristically disheveled look and troubled, faraway glance perfectly signify the soulful, self-reflective nature of her music, as well as the turbulent personal life for which she was known.

Jim Marshall John Coltrane, 1960, printed 1981

While many associate Jim Marshall with images of the folk and rock worlds of the early ’60s, his early photography focused on relatively unknown but crucially important black musicians in North Beach jazz venues such as The Jazz Workshop, including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk.  The same image of Coltrane now hangs in the White House, and is a favourite of President Obama.

Jim Marshall Kris Kristofferson, 1975, printed 1980
