It had an antiques valuation of up to £600.
A table made from coal has outdone its antiques valuation to sell for £7,500 at auction.
The item - which had a pre-sale estimate of between £400 and £600 - was sold in Cheltenham at Grosvenor Galleries, This is Gloucestershire reports.
Auctioneer Robin Fisher stated the piece - which was made out of parrot coal - was an unusual, quirky item and the sort that only tends to come up for sale "once in a blue moon".
He added: "I have been an auctioneer for nearly 30 years and I have never seen one."
Mr Fisher described the table, stating it was carved out of coal and is extremely rare.
What's more, the total cost was around £9,000 after the buyer - a dealer from London - paid the auctioneers premium.
This comes after another unusual item went under the hammer in Gloucestershire late last year when a book about nose jobs - printed in 1597 - was sold at auction for £11,000 in Cirencester.
