Those looking for accurate antique appraisals may be inspired by news that a helmet worn by Top Gear driver the Stig is expected to reach £1,200 at auction.

The item - which is signed by presenter Richard Hammond and the crew - was sported by the driver between 2002 and 2005.

It is set to go under the hammer at Gorringes Auctioneers in Lewes, east Sussex on October 20th.

Sophia Vaizey - a former production coordinator on the show - put the product up for sale after she was given it as a present when she left following an 18-month stint.

The 30-year-old from Hove added that the Stig was provided with a new helmet for safety reasons and she was quite surprised when it was given to her.

Other items from TV to recently be sold at auction include an array of products from US show Lost, such as a blue Volkswagen Dharma van which fetched $47,500 (£30,833).
