Sir Winston Churchill's dentures 'could fetch £5k auction price'

The story of Sir Winston Churchill's false teeth may inspire those seeking antique valuations.

Those on the lookout for antique valuations might have noted news that a set of Sir Winston Churchill's false teeth is expected to accrue as much as £5,000 when it goes under the hammer.

It was worn by Britain's Second World War leader during some of his most infamous speeches in the fight against Nazi Germany.

The dentures will be sold by Keys auctioneers in Aylsham, Norfolk, where bidders may be attracted by the historic nature of the lot.

Nigel Cudlipp - whose father Derek was Churchill's dental technician - is selling the item.

He explained: "His dentures had a gap to preserve his slight lisp, but they were delicate and often broke, especially when he was in one of his bad moods."

Regarding the false teeth, Mr Cudlipp noted how his father joked you could gauge how well the war was going "depending on how far [Churchill] flung them across the room".

Elsewhere, the Patty Doyle auction gallery in Springfield, US, has arranged the sale of a note signed by former president Abraham Lincoln, the State Journal Register reports.
