Silver Salts Reach a Value of £19,000.
Hansons auction house in Derby sold a set of four silver salt dishes for a grand price of £19,000 at auction on March 10th.
A set of four George II silver salt dishes were sold at Hansons for double the estimate going for £19,000. These pieces, made by Huguenot silversmith Paul de Lamerie (1688-1751) were in the latest sale that took place in Derby at the Mackworth Hotel. The pieces themselves have the mark for London, 1728 as well as the ‘fleur du lys’ mark for their maker de Lamerie.
The silvers had previously been in the Wyndham family for about two centuries before coming to auction. The auction house acquired a lot of interest with collectors before the sale and the silvers ended up in the collection of a collector acting as a consultant.
This auction created a new record for Hansons with the sale of not only the silvers but also a Daoguang mark and period (1821-1850) famille rose vase with a turquoise ground for £192,000.
