Rare antique sign sells at auction for $13k

A double-sided tin sign has sold at a Spring Petroliana & Advertising Auction for thousands.

An antique sign featuring the picture of a woman looking very similar to Shirley Temple has sold at auction for $13,000 (£8,673).

Prior to being put under the hammer, the lot was appraised and given a rating of 8.9 out of ten in terms of its condition, taking into account both sides and its shine and colour, Paul Fraser Collectibles reports.

It was included among a number of items up for bidding at Matthews Auctions' Spring Petroliana & Advertising event and was the best-selling item of the day. The news source noted, however, that although the lady used in the design does appear to be based on the aforementioned Hollywood Star, Temple never allowed her image to be used.

This comes after Christie's of London recently sold off an outdoor statue of a girl holding a bird's nest - made by the Bromsgrove Guild - for £12,000, the Bromsgrove Advertiser reported.
