A Peanuts comic strip, featuring cartoon character Charlie Brown, has been given an antique price guide of $30,000 (£19,202) by one industry expert.

This is according to ComicConnect.com chief executive officer Stephen Fishler, who noted that the original piece, created by Charles Schulz, is a part of cartoon history.

Bidding for the 1966 item has already begun on the website and this will finish on Monday (September 20th).

It was bought at a California garage sale for $50 by Laureen Picciani, a pastry chef from Fort Bragg, California, who said he knew he had stumbled across something special but was not aware just how much it was worth.

He added: "I kind of identified with Charlie Brown because I often feel like I don't know what's going on either."

Other paper-based material set to go under the hammer later this year includes a book titled Birds of America, written by John James Audubon, which was given an antique price guide of between £4 million and £6 million.
