Old-school toys 'could achieve high antique valuations'

Toys such as Scalextric and Hornby train sets could fetch high prices at auction.

Youngsters may no longer wish to play with them, forsaking old-school toys for newfangled products such as iPads and PlayStations, but the likes of Hornby train and Scalextric sets could still achieve high antique valuations.

This is according to vintage expert Anita Manning, who told Stv that one model engine set from the 60s brought in by an audience member for her to give a once-over was worth a collector's price of approximately £180.

What's more, she also gave a Scalextric toy an antique guide price of around £140.

However, those considering going through the attic to find their old childhood games may like to note that Ms Manning believes condition of such playthings to be all-important.

"They are often [victims] of boisterous children or being left to rust away in the loft," she remarked.

Her comments come after a figurine of youngsters' favourite Morph - of Hartbeat and Take Hart fame - sold at auction for £3,000, the Bristol Evening Post recently reported.
