Lennon lyrics could go for £300k

The Beatle's handwritten notes for A Day In The Life could fetch hundreds of thousands at auction.

Musical Instruments

Handwritten lyrics to the final song on the Sgt Pepper's LonelyHearts Club Band album have been valued and could fetch over£300,000 when they are put up for auction in New York on June 18th. The notes for A Day In The Life were penned by John Lennon himself and starts with 'I read the news today oh boy', complete with corrections and crossings out.

When it was released, the song itself was actually banned by theBBC because of the line 'I'd love to turn you on', which wasthought to encourage the use of drugs. Sotheby's stated that the double-sided paper offers "a rareglimpse into the Beatles' song-writing dynamic", with room left by Lennon for Paul McCartney to add some verses.

This comes after an X-ray of Marilyn Monroe's chest - taken while she was being treated for endometriosis in 1954 - was put upfor bidding at Julien's Auctions in Las Vegas on April 26th.
