Lennon and McCartney collectibles 'continue to achieve high antique valuations'

Those looking to sell rare music items might agree with one expert's assessment regarding The Beatles.

The enduring popularity of items related to The Beatles' John Lennon and Paul McCartney has meant that sellers can achieve high antique valuations for such pieces, it has been suggested.

An article published by Paul Fraser Collectibles highlighted the scarcity of objects belonging to the songwriting duo, which has apparently resulted in strong demand among buyers.

It asserted that a John Lennon autograph that was worth £695 in 2000 is now valued at £5,950.

The piece observed: "The Beatles once sang about a revolution - they could soon prove a revelation to collectors and investors alike."

This is because a variety of handwritten McCartney lyrics are yet to surface, given the musician's apparent privacy.

Previously, a song sheet for Maxwell's Silver Hammer - one of the last tunes recorded by the band - was sold for £124,000 in New York.

Elsewhere, Bonhams in London recently announced the auction of a piano once used by the group.
