A piece of antique furniture went for £1,100.

A collection of over 200 items belonging to Laura Ashley -including some antique furniture - fetched £18,000 when put up forbidding this week, above initial estimates for the lots. McCartneys Auctioneers said £14,000 was the anticipated totalbut the sale exceeded expectations, with articles such as a19th-century desk stand selling for £1,100 and a replica of aship's cannon being purchased for £500, BBC News reports.

Fine art specialist and auctioneer Daniel Fielder noted thatsome of the attendees had a "particular interest" in LauraAshley.

"There were certainly different faces in the room," he remarked."We normally see the same dealers."Another piece included in the set was an ebony and brass octant,a measuring instrument from the 19th century that sold for£400.

This comes after a range of antique silver jewellery and shoes,previously belonging to Wallis Simpson - wife of Edward VIII - wasexpected to make £250,000 at auction, the Daily Mail reported.
