A painting of Jerry Hall has outdone its antiques valuation to sell for £601,250.

The piece - entitled Eight Months Gone - went under the hammer at Sotheby's in London after estimates had predicted it to go for between £300,000 and £400,000.

It was created by Lucian Freud, who painted the former wife of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger nude when she was nearing the end of her pregnancy with fourth child Gabriel.

She said she had sat next to Freud at dinner and he requested to paint her.

Hall added: "I was flattered to be asked in my condition to model for such a great artist. I accepted and posed three times a week until I went into labour."

What's more, she pointed out that she felt comfortable being on display for the artist and it led her to become more accepting of her body.
