A time capsule from James I collection was sold at the two-day sale at Rosebery’s in West Norwood, London on March 15-16. The estimate was set at only £700-1000 and catalogued as from the collection of William III.

The lantern clock was possibly made as early as 1610-20. The clock includes a single ‘ring of roses’ on the dial as well as Jacobean hand designs. The clock has gone through a few modern restorations with a few frets being replaced.

At the auction, there were nine parties interested in the clock bidding through the Internet, phone and in the room. The bidding opened at £1000 and was quickly climbing up to £13,000. The final price reached £29,000, which included the buyer’s premium.
