A medal awarded to George Best has been given an antiques valuation of between £90,000 and £120,000.

The item - awarded to the former Manchester United footballer after the Reds' 4-1 European Cup victory over Benfica in 1968 - has been put up for auction by the executors of his estate.

Other pieces owned by the Northern Ireland international - who played for Fulham and Hibernian among other sides - also set to go under the hammer include his 1968 English Football Writers' Association Footballer Of The Year trophy.

The sale is set to take place at Bonhams auction house in Chester on October 20, but it has not gone down well with his family, although they admitted his possessions needed to be sold for financial reasons.

Brother-in-law Norman McNarry, who is married to the Best's sister Barbara, said: "Myself and Barbara are absolutely devastated that the executor is having to arrange for the sale of George's trophies and memorabilia."
