Gauguin tribute to Van Gogh has antiques valuation of £10m

A Paul Gauguin painting in tribute to Vincent Van Gogh has been given an antiques valuation of up to £10 million.

The item - which is set to go under the hammer at Christie's in London next month - entitled Nature Morte a L'Esperance, is a still life of sunflowers

He created the work in 1901 and it has not been seen in public since 1989.

The painting is one of a number of lots involved in the February auction and Christie's head of impressionist and modern art, Giovanna Bertazzoni, said there was a lot of interest in art in general from collectors in China and Russia last year.

He added to the Guardian: "When there is a healthy supply it has been shown that there is a tremendous demand for the rarest and the best."

This comes after a collection of artwork by Scottish painter John Huston went under the hammer for £35,000, the Edinburgh Evening News reported last month.
