The first ever Apple computer has sold for just under its antiques valuation at auction.

Apple 1 - which was created in 1976 - went under the hammer for more than £133,000 at Christie's.

This was slightly less than its price guide, which the Daily Mail reported to be £150,000.

It was sold complete with a letter penned by the technology giant's chief executive officer Steve Jobs, who co-founded the brand with Steve Wozniak.

Mr Wozniak said the creation of the PC was a really important step, although he admitted it did not feel so when he designed it.

He added: "Today my heart went out as I got to see things auctioned off like the Turing documents and the Enigma machine - and the Apple."

These comments come after code breaker papers designed to help Alan Turing figure out messages in the German Enigma code went up for auction with an antiques valuation of £500,000, the BBC reported.

But the items failed to meet their original estimate and remain unsold.
