Fine Antique Art Gives Value to Aristocratic Family Collections

Sotheby's London is to hold a sale on 14th of April called he Noblesse Oblige and will include such items of furniture, paintings, silver, ceramics, textiles and many other mediums from the collections of many great aristocratic European families.

 Sotheby’s in London announced the sale of many amazing pieces of decorative and fine arts with links to Europe’s most important ruling families. It will be held on Thursday 14th April 2011 and titled, Noblesse Oblige. Some highlights are pieces from the Duchesse de Berry as well as a selection of works from the collection of the Royal Bourbon Family and the Austrian Imperial Family. Along side these wonderful collections will also be many items that showcase the Neoclassical Grand Tour period of collecting.

The sale is to exceed proceeds of £2 million, which will be made up of 500 lots. Items such as furniture, paintings, silver, ceramics, and textiles will be on display. The highlight from the items of the Duchesse de Berry is a set of drawing instruments estimated at £45,000-70,000. They were designed by the luxury goods maker Alphonse Giroux. There are also many fine examples of Faberge items in this sale. One piece, a Faberge gold-mounted cigarette case, is estimated at £10,000-15,000. As well as a Russian tapestry valued at £30,000 – 50,000.
