Eric Clapton’s Guitars and Amps Reach A Value of $2.5 Million

On Wednesday, March 9th, Bonhams in New York auctioned off a collection of 75 guitars and 55 amps of Eric Clapton. The auction went to benefit The Crossroads Center in Antigua, a drug and alcohol center founded in 1998 by Clapton. The sale was a success with 100% of the lots being sold and the estimate being tripled to reach a total of $2.5 million.

Many hopeful collectors came from across the world. Countries from Russia, Japan, and Korea to the UK and Europe were showing great interest in the collection and were still energized throughout the 4½-hour sale.

Some of the famous guitars sold for record-breaking prices. A 1948 Gibson L-5P sold for almost $83,000, while a 2005 Zemaitis S22BP 3S reached over $75,000. The most expensive amp auctioned was a pair of 1997 Fender Twin Amps selling for just over $42,500.
