An Eric Carle painting has had an antiques valuation of between £3,000 and £5,000 placed on it.

The artist - famous for The Very Hungry Caterpillar illustrations - is one of many who has pictures up for sale in order to raise money for House of Illustration, which is believed to be the world's first center dedicated to art in all forms, the BBC reports.

Other big names include Quentin Blake, who worked with well known author Roald Dahl - famous for writing George's Marvelous Medicine and The Twits, among other titles - for 15 years.

Blake has been encouraging his fellow professionals, such as Raymond Briggs and Gerald Scarfe, to submit their works to go under the hammer at Sotheby's on December 16th.

A group of 28 drawings are set to be on sale at the event and Blake said: "There's a terrific diversity of style."

This comes after an Andy Warhol painting beat its antiques valuation to sell for $35.36 million (£22.36 million) at auction earlier this month.
