A signed copy of a biography written by Winston Churchill is expected to reach an antique valuation of £2,000 when it goes under the hammer.

The discovery has been made in Rooke Books in North umber land Place, which made the financial assessment, the Bath Chronicle reports.

The wartime leader penned the tome - Marlborough: His Life and Times - about his ancestor the Duke of Marlborough in the 1930s when the Conservative party was out of office.

And the find has come at a good time for the bookshop - which celebrates its first anniversary next month.

Manager Isha Marquez said business is now going well despite a slow start, adding that she may try to sell the item in her shop but "ultimately it will depend on what a museum or Churchill collector is willing to pay for it at auction".

Antique valuation seekers may be interested to note that a paper signed by former US president Abraham Lincoln is set to be auctioned with a listed price of between $10,000 and $12,500.
