Antique price guide of £100k given to oil painting

The picture was painted by Terence Cuneo and features Doncaster-built train the Union of South Africa.

An oil work of the Union of South Africa, a Class A4 steam locomotive built in Doncaster in 1937, has been given an antique price guide of more than £100,000.

Painted by the late Terence Cuneo in 1992, the picture has now been put up for sale by MacConnal-Mason and features the artist's trademark mouse, a motif that appears in all his creations from the mid 50s on, local paper the Star reports.

Cuneo himself appeared to have something of a fascination with the railway industry, painting steam trains a great number of times, with his work still sought after today.

The record amount paid for one of his pictures - Out Of The Night - is £74,000.

Similarly, paintings by Adolf Hitler recently went on sale, having been given an antique valuation of £150,000.

According to Richard Westwood-Brookes of Mullocks Auctions, the former Nazi leader would try to sell his creations to tourists so as to earn a living.
