An Andy Warhol painting of Mao has sold for more than ten times its antiques valuation.

The item - which went under the hammer at Christie's yesterday (January 11th) - fetched $302,500 (£193,579) at the New York auction house.

And the piece - which had been punctured twice by Dennis Hoppers' bullets - had previously been expected to go for between $20,000 and $30,000.

The 1972 painting was among 300 products handed to Christie's to auction following the actor's death last year.

Hopper - who died of prostate cancer in May at the age of 74 - starred in a number of top motion pictures, such as Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet, as well as playing the villain in the film Speed, which also featured the talents of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock.

And the American's work earned him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.
