Amelia Earhart letter 'fascinating for aviation value seekers'

hose with a passion for aviation collectibles might be fascinated by news that a letter penned by Amelia Earhart ? the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic ? has been sold at auction.

It sold for $3,125 (£2,122) at Sotheby's and contains some of Earhart's own thoughts about the future of flying as she perceived it in 1929, Paul Fraser Collectibles reports.

She described long-distance air trips as "a striking example of what the body can accomplish. The individual himself, in the flight, becomes the subject of a laboratory experiment".

The publication described the purchase as representing a "bargain price" and is sure to appreciate in worth over the years ahead.

At the time of writing the letter, Earhart described trans-ocean flights as something that was inevitable.

The sale also saw John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for the Beatles' 1967 song A Day In the Life ? from Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - sell for $1.2 million.
