Those looking to get antique valuations that have a political resonance might have seen news that a note signed by former US president Abraham Lincoln is due to go on sale in the US.

The Patty Doyle auction gallery in Springfield is set to sell a signature and short message penned by Lincoln - dated July 19th 1861, as reported by the State Journal Register.

Bidders can try and secure the rarity, which features the American leader's handwritten instructions on the back of a letter from senator James Rood Doolittle of Wisconsin.

The note sees Lincoln endorse the recommendation of Doolittle with regards to the promotion of two soldiers.

Furthermore, the publication asserts that the signature is "the real deal".

Previously, a lock of hair belonging to French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte achieved about £9,000 at an auction in New Zealand.

A bidder from the UK bagged the item, which was clipped from the leader's head after his death in 1821.
