A painting that previously cost £100 has had a £100,000 antique price guide placed on it.

The Victorian oil piece - which was created by Leeds-born artist John Atkinson Grimshaw in 1892 - is a landscape of Salt house Dock, Liverpool.

It has been displayed on the wall of a couple's Northumberland home after they purchased it from a dealer in London's Burlington Arcade 50 years ago.

The item will be sold in Alnwick, Northumberland, on Sunday (October 17th) by auctioneer Jim Railton, who pointed out that when he first spotted it in the pair's home he knew it was a Grimshaw.

He added: "It is of significant interest to many collectors and to offer such an item for sale is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

This news comes after an antique price guide of between £10 million and £15 million was placed on a horse painting by artist George Stubbs, it was announced last week.
