A portrait of actress Dame Elizabeth Taylor created by Andy Warhol has been sold at an auction in London for more than £6.7 million, in news that may have captured the imagination of those seeking art valuations.

Christie's hosted the sale as part of its Post-War and Contemporary Evening Auction in the capital.

The piece - which has not been displayed in public for more than 20 years - is called Silver Liz and was produced in 1963.

Prior to the sale, the item had been given a price estimate of between £6 million and £8 million.

Furthermore, Mappa by Alighiero Boetti was sold for more than £1.8 million, setting a new auction record for the artist in the process.

The event also saw Loopy by Jeff Koons fetch £3.4 million.

Meanwhile, those looking for an accurate art valuation might have noted that Sotheby's recently held an auction that saw £41 million worth of antique paintings find new owners.
