A nightdress once worn by Wallis Simpson, who Edward VII renounced from the throne, has been given an antiques valuation of up to £1,000, it has been said.

According to the BBC, the scarlet chiffon garment - from the 1940s to the early 1950s - is one of a number of her old items that are set to go under the hammer.

These include handbags and luggage, as well as her collection of lingerie.

A Christian Dior black crocodile handbag from 1964, which is estimated to be worth around £8,000, is one of the products, as is a vanity case made by Luis Vuitton in the 1960s.

What's more, a Kerry Taylor Auctions spokeswoman said: "The sublime bias-cut confections that were her nightwear give an intimation of the sensuousness and secret allure of the duchess."

This comes after jewels previously owned by Ms Simpson were given an antiques valuation of up to £3 million.
