Turkish Contemporary Art Sale Valued at $9.5 Million

On Tuesday, March 22nd, Antik A.S. auction house held their annual Turkish Modern and Contemporary art sale in Istanbul. As the leading auction house in Turkey, Antik holds the most important sales throughout the year.

 In Istanbul on Tuesday March 22nd, Antik A.S. held a sale of Turkish contemporary and modern art that outperformed the $6 million estimate by $3.5 million for a total of $9,500,000. Antik A. S. is the leading auction house in Turkey who holds the most important sales of Modern and Contemporary Turkish Art.

The top-selling lot was from Erol Akyavas (1932-1999) who was a very influential Turkish artist. His piece, ‘VAV’ went for a remarkable $800,000. Other highlights included Ferruh Bagasa’s oil on canvas, which realized a record for the artist at $480,000, and Burhan Dogancay’s ‘Cone on a Wall’ went for $340,000.

The auctioneer, Olgac Artam was quoted as saying, “We are absolutely delighted with the results achieved for our sale of contemporary Turkish Art. Participation of new collectors and young buyers sends a very positive message to the art market.”
