Christies is holding an auction of Swiss art at the Kunsthaus in Zurich today. The sale includes works from Giovanni Giacometti, and brother Alberto Giacometti, Gottardo Segantini as well as many other important Swiss artists.

Some highlights include Alberto Giacometti’s Buste d’homme, which depicts his brother Diego. The piece is estimated at SFr. 900,000-1,200,000 or, about £610,000-815,000. The original plaster mold sold for $3.8 million in New York at the November 2010 sale.

Alberto’s younger brother, Giovanni as one of the most impressive pieces in the sale. His family portrait Unter dem Holunder / Under the elder tree (1911) is estimated at SFr. 1.8-2.5 million or about £1.2-1.7 million. Recently Christie’s set a world record for Giovanni with the sale of his portrait Die Mutter / The Mother (circa 1911) for SFr. 3,240,000 or £2,200,000.

This sale hopes to see great results. Along with the great examples of the Giacometti family, there are other works by artists such as Felix Vallotton (1865-1925) and a rare work fro Andreas Walser (1908-1930). The auction starts at 6 p.m. in the Kunsthaus Zurich (grand auditorium).
