A collection of more than 1,000 Steiff teddy bears has been handed an antiques valuation of more than £1 million.

The price guide has been placed on the items by Christie's before an auction in London on Wednesday (October 13th).

Rarities include the 1925 Steiff Harlequin, created from red and blue mohair, which could fetch between £50,000 and £80,000.

Daniel Agnew, teddy bear expert for the auctioneers, told ITN that the pieces are some of the best examples to come to market and are all in exceptional condition.

He added: "They range from the very early period right up to the 1960s and they are some of the rarest things to come to the market for a very long time."

Another item that children may have enjoyed that has recently gone under the hammer was TV figurine Morph - which could be seen on Hartbeat with artist Tony Hart - after it sold for £3,000, the Bristol Evening Post reported.
