Those looking for an accurate antiques valuation might be interested to see an apology letter written by the late Alex Higgins is set to go under the hammer.

The note - which could reach up to £2,000, according to reports - was penned by the snooker legend, who died in July, aged 61, after an altercation with press officer Colin Randle.

Higgins - known as the Hurricane - punched Mr Randle in the stomach after the player's exit from the 1990 World Championships.

Charles Hanson, from Hanson Auctioneers, said the letter contains comments such as: "I was very upset at the time in respect of personal and financial matters."

Mr Randle is planning to donate some of the proceeds to Cancer Research after the sale in Derby on November 25th.

This comes after former England footballer Nobby Stiles sold his 1966 World Cup winners for £188,200 at auction to his ex-club Manchester United.
