The garment has an antiques valuation of up to $300,000.

Native American Art

Fans of Native American Indian history might be interested to note a painted hide shirt has been given an antiques valuation of between $250,000 (£161,517) and $300,000.

The item - which is set to go under the hammer at Christie's in New York on January 18th - was popular during the 18th century, according to the auction house.

It makes up part of a Native American Art sale, which features an array of products including pottery, baskets, textiles and bead work, among others.

But the 1740 shirt, which has a red pattern on, is leading the sale as it has the highest antiques valuation.

Christie's stated: "The painting style is unique but resembles the intermediate style found in the 1720s in the region south and west of Lake Michigan."

Another item set to go up for sale at the auctioneers is an Andy Warhol painting of Mao Zedong, which was previously owned by Dennis Hopper and has a pre-sale estimate of $20,000.
