A model of TV character Morph has been sold for an antique valuation of £3,000.

The nine-inch figure went under the hammer at the Mariott Royal in College Green in order to raise money for Stepping Stones Nigeria, a charity which protects vulnerable and disadvantaged children, the Bristol Evening Post reports.

People may be most familiar with the character from his appearance on TV shows with artist Tony Hart, such as Take Hart and Hartbeat.

The model was created by co-founder of Aardman Animations and the news provider noted that there was a bidding war involving two women, which surprised the organisers, as well as Natalie Collin, fundraising manager at the aid organisation.

She added: "Like everyone, I was totally engrossed in the excitement of the bidding war over the Morph. It was utterly amazing."

Other recent surprises at auction came when a Chinese porcelain bowl - which had an antique price guide of £600 - fetched £38,000, the Daily Mail reported.
