Maurice de Vlaminck Valued with a World Record

Last night in New York, Christie's held their Modern and Impressionist sale where Maurice de Vlaminck made a world record of $22,482,500.

At Christie’s Modern and Impressionist sale last night, May 4th, sold Maurice de Vlaminck’s ‘Paysage de Banlieue’ for $22,482,500. The sale realized a record for the artist after an unknown telephone bidder became successful. Vlaminck’s previous record was achieved in 1990 of is work ‘Les Pecheurs a Nanterre’ for $10.7 million.

At the sale last night, the Fauvist landscape was estimated from $18,000,000 – 25,000,000. One of the highest lots, the sale as a total realized close to $155 million. Other top lots included a Claude Monet selling for $22,482,500 as well. The third highest lot went to Henri Matisse selling for $15,762,500.
