The white dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in a scene from the motion picture The Seven Year Itch has been given an antiques valuation of between $1 million (£616,132) and $2 million.

It was donned by the actress during the famous scene from the 1955 film where her skirt lifts up to expose her legs, the Times Colonist reports.

Auctioneer Profiles in History has described the dress as the most famous costume in history and will sell it in the first part of a series of sales, along with around 700 garments and props.

Debbie Reynolds, who owns the dress as part of a collection she has been acquiring for the past 50 years, said purchasing such items soon turned into an obsession.

This comes after it was revealed two tunics worn by the late Heath Ledger - who starred in The Dark Knight - were given an antiques valuation of between £400 and £600 each, the Small World News Service reported.
