The garment had an antiques valuation of $120,000.
A suit previously worn by Beatles star John Lennon has failed to meet its antiques valuation as it went under the hammer for $46,000 (£29,424).
The garment - worn by the A Hard Day's Night crooner on the cover of the Liverpudlian group's Abbey Road album - had a pre-sale estimate of $120,000.
It was sold at an auction in Connecticut to a bidder who wished to remain anonymous.
Last year, it was revealed lyrics written by the music legend on the back of an outstanding £12 bill for the song I'm Only Sleeping - which was used on the group's 1966 album Revolver - had been given an antiques valuation of £350,000.
This comes after Lennon - who was married to Yoko Ono and had various records with the Beatles, including Eleanor Rigby, Hey Jude and Hello, Goodbye - was tragically shot dead more than 30 years ago.
