The auction house Jacobs & Hunt sold a valuable pice of 17th Century italian Art for £37,000 to an Italian dealer with hopes of promising future research.

Ceramics & Porcelain

Last month Hampshire auction house Jacobs & Hunt sold a 17th Century Italian Marble Mosaic of The Adoration of the Magi. The piece sold for £37,000, a record for the auction house.

The piece is comprised of semi-precious stones inlayed in an ebony and oval amethyst panel. There was great interest from both collectors abroad on the telephone as well as live bidders in the room.

The piece sold to an Italian dealer who is planning to have the work sent to the South of Italy for further tests and research to hopefully find the artist of workshop responsible for the work.
