Next month, Christie’s will be showcasing a Francis Bacon triptych in their Post-war and Contemporary sale in New York. The 1974 work titled, “Three Studies for Self-Portrait” is perceived to achieve a price of more than $25 million. The three manipulated portraits show the British artist on a dark background with eyes closed. The piece will be on view in London before the sale on 11th of May.

Bret Gorvy, Christie’s deputy chairman and international head of post-war and contemporary art said, “The Bacon market is truly global and we have witnessed strong prices paid in recent months.” In February, Sotheby’s sold another Francis Bacon triptych of Lucian Freud for £23 million ($38 million).

Bacon is one of the most celebrated artists in the market right now. With the record for a triptych in 2008 going for $86.3 million, the price will hopefully reach impressive levels.
