Last night, Sotheby's sold 96 million pounds worth of impressionist art with an Egon Schiele reaching record prices at 24 million pounds.
Yesterday, Sotheby's sold "Hauser mit brunder Wasche Vorstadt II" by Egon Schiele for a record price 24.7 million pounds in London. The total sale resulted in 96.9 Million pounds with close to 35 lots being sold. The Egon Shiele was up for sale next to works from artists such as Marc Chagall, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Augste Renoir and Auguste Rodin. With an estimate of 20-30 million pounds, the final price of 24,681,250 pounds, the Shiele painting was the highlight of the sale. The Austrian artist painted the landscape in 1914 and finally, reached an artist record at auction.
Some other highlights include, an Alberto Giacometti 1948 sculpture sold for 10.7 million pounds. A Pablo Picasso 1969 oil canvas sold as well for 6.5 million pounds. Another great highlight was a Joan Miro oil painting reaching a price of 4.7 million pounds.
