eBay listing mistakes made by celebrities

Being a household name tends to make things a little less straight forward when selling items the convention way.

The anonymity that is afforded by putting items for sale online would usually be a blessing to a person in the public eye but recent examples of this have shown that there are occasions when this can backfire.

Both Nigella Lawson and Cher have courted unwanted attention for selling items on the site and offending a number of people in the process. Nigella was caught selling a book penned by her close friend Sophie Waugh and was found out when a friend of Miss Waugh bought the book and discovered a rather personal message inscribed on the inside cover. Cher was considerably less subtle with her approach and listed her key to the city of Adelaide, a move that prompted a furious reaction from the major of the city but later sold for the sum of £55,000.

Other famous and frankly bizarre items sold on eBay by celebrities include James Blunt's sister. She was advertised by her brother on eBay as she was in a hurry to get to a funeral in Ireland. An obliging helicopter pilot took up the challenge and ferried her to her destination and then proceeded to marry her three years later. Cherie Blair was also stung when trying to sell a watch that was supposedly given to her by the previous Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. The Locman Mare Titanium, described by Cherie as ‘unused in its original box with guarantee’ is worth around £300. It eventually sold for £98.
