A local North Yorkshire auction sold a Seventeenth Century working clock for £75,000 to a private collector.
At Tennants in North Yorkshire, a great time piece designed by John Knibb sold for £75,000. The piece is signed with "Johannes Knibb Oxon Fecit, circa 1685". The lot was a great piece from a whole family of clock makers. The piece was estimated at £25,000-35,000 but the bidding exceded the estimate fairly quickly. With a great example of a seventeenth century working clock, the price was hardly a surprise. Going to a private collector, the piece is resting in a good home!
