Champagne Gets a High Appraisal

On June 3rd, Acker Merrall & Condit sold two bottle of champagne for €54,000 (£48,200) to an annonymous online bidder.

From Acker Merrall & Condit, two bottles of Veuve Clicquot champagne were sold last Friday for €54,000 (£48,200). The sale consisted of close to 145 bottles found from a shipwreck off the coast of the Aland Islands between Finland and Sweden.

Of the bottles found, there were 46 bottles of Veuve Clicquot, 4 Heidsiecks and an impressive 94 bottles of Juglar, a champagne house not currently in business anymore.

The proceeds from this sale will be given to a number of marine environment charities to help preserve and carryout non-invasive archaeological expeditions without harming the marine life.
