A sale has taken place at the famous Amityville Horror house in the US.

The residence - which has been the subject of movies and books - hosted an event that attracted hundreds of members of the public.

Among the items that were up for grabs included a $15,000 (£9,630) grand piano, according to Newsday.

Visitors to the Dutch colonial house were able to check out the upper floors, although the basement was taped off.

In addition, those in attendance were invited to bid for chairs - which were sold for more than $1,000 each - and the living room couch, valued at $600.

A buyer picked up an antique mirror for $175, highlighting the range of objects available to interested parties.

The house itself was recently put on the market with a valuation of $1.15 million.

Meanwhile, antique valuation seekers may have recently noted that Teresa Giudice, star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, has announced she would sell a range of luxurious items from her household.
