Pop & Rock Memorabilia

Beatles memorabilia is among the most coveted of all pop memorabilia, but this item that sold at auction in 2010, is no regular piece of Beatles history. It is a copy of Yoko Ono and John Lennon's 1980 album Double Fantasy that was signed by Lennon for Mark David Chapman just 5 hours before Chapman shot and killed Lennon in New York on December 8, 1980. Photographs of Lennon signing the album for Chapman have since surfaced. The album was thought to have been found in a planter outside the Dakota, where Lennon was staying in New York, and was submitted to the District Attourney's office. It sold in 1999 at auction for $150,000 and then again in 2010 at Moments in Time Auctions for $850,000 (£535,000). It is not surprising that an item with such importance to music history and of such strong provenance as being photographed being signed by Lennon, carrying Chapman's fingerprints and being used in the murder trial would be sought after by collectors.
